Laikipia is a stunning part of Kenya, dramatic, exclusive and such an easy combination with the Masai Mara. It is also a stand alone safari offering an off the beaten track experience with numerous activities to enjoy above and beyond your game drives.
John and Gill Elias wanted to support the local community from the outset. They built the lodge and donated it to the community when it opened as a social enterprise and the benefits of this responsible tourism have profoundly changed the lives of the local community. Over $5 million has been raised and invested into building schools, hospitals and water sanitation projects. The goal from the outset was to give back and enhance this spectacular part of Kenya in partnership with the Maasai and Samburu community and Ol Lentille has more than succeeded with this.
Guests experience a very personal and private stay in a spectacular wilderness setting coupled with authentic Maasai and Samburu culture. The four lavish villa’s offer privacy, exclusivity and spectacular views from every vista. The property also boasts a library, spa and stunning infinity pool.
In the Ol Lentille conservation area elephant numbers have really grown in recent years and some months they record several thousand sightings! In the conservancy there are an incredible number of wild dog, there are six packs (averaging twenty) that traverse the area around the lodge so sightings year round can be very good.
Ol Lentille offers a huge amount more than just its game viewing and exclusive accommodation. The concept here is do what you like when you like.
Guests can experience so much variety here. All of the activities are private making them extra special:
- Day and night game drives
- Walking safaris
- Camel safaris
- Horse riding (chargeable extra and only for experienced riders)
- Mountain and quad biking
- Conservation initiatives first hand
- Authentic community experiences like visiting the nearby singing wells, schools and weekly livestock markets
- Maasai and Samburu culture up close and personal
- Unlimited spa treatments
- Bush meals in stunning locations
Staying here is, notably, a "holiday" and there is downtime to enjoy the numerous unique and special activities that the lodge and Laikipia offer. Your stay is not the safari format of game drives every morning and evening (yes you can do this if you want) but as most guests combine Ol Lentille with the Masai Mara where they will be in cars for the duration of the stay, Ol Lentille want this to be relaxing! If you slow down you completely appreciate the space and isolation of this stunning location. It is quite common for guests to not go for game drives but rather do walking safaris and other activities that Laikipia is renowned for. Guided by Samburu and Maasai warriors this is a very special journey into their ancient lands.
Importantly your stay is designed to be restful, guests aren't woken up at 5.30 / 6am for the first activity (unless they want to be) – instead they have a full night's sleep and have a private breakfast in their villa at the time of their choice and then do the morning private activity of their choice. This flexibility combined with unlimited spa treatments ensures guests relax in this stunning environment and leave revitalised!
